Vibrate

Vibrate is Alyssa Favero’s self-choreographed solo which premiered at Dancing on the Edge in 2023 in collaboration with the support of sound designers Julien Villa and Dino, costume designer/stylist Jae-Woo Kang, and dramaturgy support by Audrey Sides, Arash Khakpour and Francesca Frewer.

This interdisciplinary collaboration utilizing both original text and recorded text by Audre Lorde as well as the wide range of movement vocabulary within Alyssa’s personal dance history - from whacking/waacking/punking to contemporary improvisation to heels choreography. Vibrate synthesizes all of these elements to investigate the emotional landscape of self-expression and pleasure.

PERFORMANCE nOTES: Vibrate is a live solo for mature audiences. The work lasts approximately 25 minutes, with iterations performed by Alyssa Favero and Lamont. Both performers undress to their undergarments during the piece. In Alyssa’s iteration, they become fully nude for about 1 minute. They then change into a bodysuit, T-shirt and heels. The sound score includes text in English. both performers speak in English and French for approximately 1 minute.
